People & Planet Before Pipelines & Profit! System Change, Not Climate Change!
April 21, 2025
Earth Day 2025 is an important opportunity to raise our demands in defense of Mother Earth loud and clear!
Around the world, the years 2023 and 2024 were the hottest ever recorded. With summer just around the corner in Canada, that trend is set to continue – bringing with it more frequent heat waves, increasing wildfires, ongoing drought and other extreme weather conditions.
Yet, the government of Canada recklessly refuses to act – and worse, it continues to fuel the climate crisis. In 2024 the oil and gas industry in Canada received $29.6 billion in subsidies from the government of Canada. These government handouts go straight into the pockets of the world›s richest companies, companies that already continue to rake in massive profits off of environmental destruction.
Now, in the midst of a Federal election, politicians across Canada are ignoring the climate crisis and instead promoting the construction of more oil and gas pipelines. Yet again, it will be the oil and gas billionaires that benefit while our Mother Earth and poor, working, and oppressed people in Canada and around the world are left to face the climate crisis impacts on our own.
Enough is enough! The governments of Canada & British Columbia must stop lining the pockets of oil and gas corporations and giving them the green light to expand their climate destroying projects!
Join the struggle in defense of mother earth!
It is time for poor, working and oppressed people in Canada to hold the government of Canada accountable for the destruction that they have brought upon Mother Earth. Everyone who believes that a just and sustainable world is possible must unite in the struggle for climate justice – and come together to demand:
System Change, Not Climate Change!
Climate Convergence Metro Vancouver continues to bring people together across the Lower Mainland for climate protests, banner drops, online Webinars and more. Whether in actions on the streets or online, the great response to the work of Climate Convergence is evidence that people in Vancouver and B.C. continue to be interested in how they can take action against the climate crisis. This includes local struggles such as the fight against the TMX (Trans Mountain tar sands oil pipeline expansion), CGL (Coastal GasLink fracked gas pipeline) and PRGT (Prince Rupert Gas Transmission fracked gas) pipelines or in defence of old growth forests. This also includes international struggles such as the fight against the exploitation by Canada-based mining companies in Brazil and Chile, or the struggle against the Israeli ecocide and genocide of Palestinians, the time to struggle in defence of Mother Earth is now.
Climate Convergence meetings are held twice a month and are open to everyone interested in fighting for a better, just and sustainable world.
No New Pipelines in a Climate Emergency!
Shut Down the TMX Pipeline!
No to the PRGT & LNG Fracked Gas Pipelines!
System Change Not Climate Change!
